From April 22nd through 27th the third Luminale took place in Frankfurt and some other cities in the Rhein-Main area
as an event connected to the Light & Building exhibition.
Within the plenty of 165 projects the "Musterhaus" by the artists duo CASA MAGICA rose to the position of a well
regarded highlight, although located rather peripheral in the district of Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen.
Whilst in the evening before the official opening mainly the neighbourhood curiously welcomed and quickly publicized
the suprising event, in the following days an increasing number of foreign visitors of the Luminale and the exhibition
felt rewarded for having made the long way out of the city center.
In a creative misunderstanding and play on the words with the meaning of the term "Musterhaus" - "show house",
"exemplary house" as well as "pattern house" - the collision in taste and theory on contemporary architecture, on ornament
and crime ( pamphlet at the dawn of modernism against the decoration of facades by Adolf Loos, Vienna 1908) were
illustrated by architectural projection. The scene of the event was a generally unmentioned solitary high-rise building
of the 60s in a architecturally historically prominent position: at the pivot of Ernst May's exemplary housing estate, where
the Riedhof once stood.
The patterns, which CASA MAGICA created specifically for this project and adapted to the features of this apartment building,
cite symbols of various lifestyles, which can be found concretely in habitations: Stresemann-trousers, Murano-chandelier,
tea strainer, grand piano, mountaineering boot.
Regarding the technical realisation two large format projectors type PANI BP 6 GT with carousel slide changers,
automatic shutters and 180 mm lenses were used.
